چکیده

This paper explains a mechanism of commonmode generation on a printed circuit board with a narrow ground pattern. A transmission line has its value of degree of unbalance. At a connection point of two transmission lines having different degrees of unbalance, common mode voltage is generated proportional to the difference, and it drives common mode current. The authors propose a method to evaluate common mode current distribution and verify it by measurement. Although calculated common mode current is larger than measured one by a few dBs, both of them are proportional to the degree of unbalance. An EMI reduction technique, ‘unbalance matching,’ is also proposed. key words: EMC technology, digital circuit, printed circuit

Increase of Common-Mode Radiation due to Guard Trace Voltage and Determination of Effective Via-Location

A guard trace placed near a signal line reduces commonmode radiation from a printed circuit board. The reduction effect is evaluated by the imbalance difference model, which was proposed by the authors, when the guard trace has exactly the same potential as the return plane. However, depending on interval of ground connection of the guard trace, the radiation can increase when the guard trace r...

Computation of Common Mode Radiation Due to Asymmetric Coupling on Printed Circuit Boards

Common mode radiation often is the predominant contribution to the overall radiation from printed circuit boards. Since the return paths for common{mode currents are via displacement current, the proximity of the printed transmission lines to nearby metal objects become important. It is shown that common mode currents are due to the asymmetry of the printed structures , and therefore, an eeecti...

Differential- and common-mode radiofrequency interference filters based on complementary split-ring resonators: a conduction and radiation impact analysis

This paper aims to analyse the design techniques of differential transmission lines loaded with metamaterials. Specifically, complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) were etched on the ground plane of a microstrip transmission line in order to mitigate both differentialand common-mode propagation in differential signalling. Several prototypes were manufactured and characterised in printed ci...

Design and Fabrication of a Narrow-bandwidth Micromechanical Ring Filter using a Novel Process in UV-LIGA Technology

This paper presents the design and a new low-cost process for fabrication of a second-order micromechanical filter using UV-LIGA technology. The micromechanical filter consists of two identical bulk-mode ring resonators, mechanically coupled by a flexural-mode beam. A new lumped modeling approach is presented for the bulk-mode ring resonators and filter. The validity of the analytical derivatio...

Evaluation of EMI Reduction Effect of Guard Traces Based on Imbalance Difference Model

Placing a guard trace next to a signal line is the conventional technique for reducing the common-mode radiation from a printed circuit board. In this paper, the suppression of common-mode radiation from printed circuit boards having guard traces is estimated and evaluated using the imbalance difference model, which was proposed by the authors. To reduce common-mode radiation further, a procedu...
